The Story of Pono

I grew up on Maui, where the word pono is part of daily life. In Hawaiian, pono means righteousness, balance, doing what is right. It’s not just a word — it’s a way of being. When I named this company, I chose pono because it captures what education should be: balanced, intentional, and centered on each child’s path.
From Maui to the Sonoran Desert
I came to Arizona and fell in love with the Sonoran Desert. Tucson became home. But I brought Hawai’i with me — the belief that every person deserves to be seen, respected, and supported in the way that’s right for them.
That belief is why I became a teacher, and why I started Pono Education.

The state motto of Hawai’i is “Ua Mau ke Ea o ka Āina i ka Pono” — The life of the land is perpetuated in righteousness.

Why 1-on-1?
In a classroom of 25 students, a teacher might get 2 minutes of individual attention per child per hour. At Pono Education, your child gets 60 minutes of focused, undivided instruction. That’s not more attention — it’s a fundamentally different kind of learning.

From the Islands to the Desert
Hawaii and Arizona are separated by an ocean, but they share something important: wide open skies, tight-knit communities, and the understanding that the land shapes who we are. I carry the spirit of pono into every session — the same care, respect, and intentionality that the islands taught me, now rooted in the Sonoran Desert.
Your child’s education deserves that kind of attention. Let’s find the right path together.
“Life is ’Ono when you live Pono!”
